Bukchon Hanok Village is one of the most iconic areas in Seoul. Located around Gyeongbokgung Palace, the neighborhood is often described as Bukchon to the east and Seochon to the west, with traditional hanok houses densely filling the area.

As its name suggests, Bukchon is where you can truly feel the atmosphere of traditional Korea. It has become a must-visit destination for international travelers, and it’s not uncommon to see visitors walking through the alleys wearing hanbok.

But Bukchon is more than just a sightseeing destination. It’s a living, breathing district of Seoul’s lifestyle.

Here, you can experience shopping, cafés, and modern Korean brands — all within traditional hanok spaces. Today, we’re focusing on hanok-based shopping spaces where traditional architecture meets contemporary brands.

Good Runner Company

Good Runner Company (굿러너컴퍼니) is a curated running shop located inside a traditional hanok in Bukchon. Running culture continues to grow in Korea, and this space reflects that trend in a unique and thoughtful way.

Unlike typical retail stores, the space is divided by rooms following the original hanok structure. Shoes, apparel, and accessories are placed in separate areas, allowing visitors to move slowly and explore the store almost like a gallery.

The exposed wooden beams and traditional ceiling details create a calm atmosphere while still delivering a modern retail experience.

Personally, what stood out the most was how naturally the layout guided me from one room to another. I found myself spending more time here than in a typical store.

Minju Kim Flagship Store

Minju Kim Flagship Store (민주킴) is one of the most visually striking spaces in Bukchon.
Next to the entrance, an arched opening frames a beautiful scene of hanok architecture and trees — almost like a painting.

Inside, a small garden filled with seasonal flowers creates a calm and open atmosphere. Even without shopping, visitors often stop here to take photos and enjoy the space.
The interior reflects Minju Kim’s signature aesthetic — soft, romantic, and detailed.

This was personally the most memorable space for me. Before even looking at the clothes, my attention stayed on the garden and the architecture itself. It’s the kind of place that naturally makes you pause.

MLB Bukchon Stadium

MLB Bukchon Stadium (MLB 북촌 스타디움) is a hanok-style store located near Jeongdok Library.

The courtyard features cloud-shaped installations and seating areas, reminiscent of a traditional Korean landscape painting. Many visitors can be seen resting here, making it feel more like a place to stay rather than just shop.

Inside, traditional objects such as wooden chests and tables are combined with MLB branding, creating a unique blend of heritage and modern design.

The store also offers interactive experiences:

  • Custom embroidery services
  • Traditional knot and keyring making (Norigae)
  • Bag and cap customization
There are also exclusive “MLB Bukchon” items available only at this location.
I ended up sitting in the courtyard for a while, and it felt less like a retail space and more like a place to take a break. That lingering atmosphere was what stayed with me.

Sulwhasoo Bukchon House

Sulwhasoo Bukchon House (북촌 설화수의 집) is an experiential space by the luxury Korean beauty brand Sulwhasoo.

The building connects a traditional hanok from the 1930s with a Western-style structure from the 1960s, creating a layered architectural experience.

Beyond product displays, the space offers:

  • Fragrance experience classes
  • Guided docent tours
Reservations for these programs are highly competitive and often sell out within minutes.

Rather than simply showcasing products, the space invites visitors to experience the brand through all five senses.

The entire place felt like a curated exhibition. Instead of focusing on products, I found myself slowly moving through the space, taking it all in.

KAHI YLESS (가히 와이레스) is a flagship store by the K-beauty brand KAHI, known for its popular multi-balm products.

Located right next to Good Runner Company, the store immediately catches attention with its courtyard filled with blooming flowers that blend beautifully with the hanok setting.
  • 1F: Café
  • B1: Beauty retail space
In addition to KAHI products, the store features a curated selection of indie beauty brands that are still relatively unknown internationally.

There is also a makeup experience zone where visitors can try Korean-style makeup, often attracting international tourists.

The space feels more experiential than a typical beauty store.
This was the place that first caught my eye while walking. The combination of flowers and hanok architecture naturally made me stop without even thinking.
