4 Unique Cafes in Seoul: Hanok, Garden, and Scenic View Spots

In Seoul, cafés are no longer just places to drink coffee. They have become spaces where you experience atmosphere, architecture, views, and the rhythm of the city itself.

From a café overlooking the Seoul Fortress Wall to a preserved 1930s house, a hanok café with a quiet garden, and a large garden café that feels almost like an urban forest, these four places each offer a different side of Seoul’s café culture.

Based on my own visits, this guide focuses on atmosphere, accessibility, and the kind of experience each café offers.

Naksan Fortress Wall View Café “Gaeppul”

Sunset view from Gaeppul cafe terrace near Naksan Park overlooking Seoul skyline

This is the kind of café you have to work a little to reach.

Located along the Naksan Fortress Wall, Gaeppul sits above the city, offering a wide-open view of Seoul from its terrace. The uphill walk is not the easiest, but that is also part of the experience. Once you arrive, the view feels like a reward.

From sunset to nightfall, the atmosphere changes beautifully. The city slowly lights up below, making this one of the most memorable view cafés in Seoul.

It is also popular with international visitors, so it already has the feel of a café that has quietly made its way onto Seoul travel lists.

  • Address: 26 Naksanseonggwakseo 1-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
  • How to Get There: Take Subway Line 4 to Hyehwa Station, Exit 2. Walk toward Naksan Park for about 15–20 minutes uphill.

1930s Japanese-Style House Café “Kitte”

Coffee and interior view inside Kitte cafe, a 1930s Japanese-style house in Seoul

The moment you step inside Kitte, it feels as if time has slowed down.

Set inside a Japanese-style house built in 1930, the café preserves much of the original structure. Wooden details, quiet corners, and architectural elements such as tokonoma-style features give the space a calm, nostalgic mood.

This is not just a place for coffee. It feels closer to experiencing a piece of architecture.

Soft natural light fills the room, and the overall atmosphere is quiet and composed. The second floor operates by reservation, making it a good option if you want a more private and peaceful visit.

  • Address: 9-6 Cheongpa-ro 47ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
  • How to Get There: Take Subway Line 4 to Sookmyung Women’s University Station, Exit 10. Walk about 5 minutes.
  • Signature Menu & Price: Matcha Cream Coffee around 7,000 KRW / Castella, pudding, and desserts around 5,000–7,000 KRW
  • Tip: A great café for solo visitors. Weekdays are much more comfortable than weekends.

Hanok Garden Café “Nuyas”

Garden seating with bean bags at Nuyas cafe in Seoul with a relaxed hanok-style atmosphere

Nuyas feels like a hidden neighborhood café tucked between quiet residential streets.

Run by an interior studio, the space is carefully styled with furniture, lighting, and objects that feel intentional without being overly designed. The result is warm, relaxed, and quietly refined.

The garden is one of its biggest charms. With beanbags placed outside, it is the kind of café where simply lying back on a nice day feels like enough.

Unlike the busier atmosphere of Hapjeong or Sangsu, Nuyas offers a slower, more local mood. It is a good choice when you want to stay for a while rather than just take photos and leave.

  • Address: 1-18 Dokmak-ro 22-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul
  • How to Get There: Take Subway Line 6 to Gwangheungchang Station, Exit 2. Walk about 5 minutes.
  • Signature Menu & Price: Americano around 3,000–4,000 KRW
  • Tip: Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit. The café has a quiet neighborhood atmosphere.

For a slower neighborhood route before or after Nuyas, my [Sangsu and Hapjeong Local Course] guide pairs well with this area.

Urban Forest Garden Café “Le Hans”

Le Hans cafe exterior in Seoul with glass architecture and a spacious garden setting

Le Hans is the kind of place that makes you wonder, “Is this really Seoul?”

Built around a spacious lawn garden, this large café and restaurant space feels more like a private estate than a typical city café. The atmosphere is grand, calm, and surrounded by nature.

With large windows looking out onto greenery, even the indoor seats feel connected to the garden. On a clear day, the outdoor seating is especially beautiful.

The space sometimes hosts weddings on weekends, so it is worth checking the schedule before visiting.

  • Address: 127 Jeongneung-ro 10-gil, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul
  • How to Get There: A taxi or private car is recommended rather than public transportation.
  • Signature Menu & Price: Coffee around 6,000–8,000 KRW / Brunch and meal menus are also available.
  • Tip: Weekdays are the most comfortable time to visit. Check for weekend wedding schedules before going.

Note: Le Hans may have limited hours or be closed on weekends in April due to private events such as weddings.

Final Thoughts

Seoul’s café scene has moved far beyond coffee. Today, the best cafés in the city are places where you experience space, mood, design, and even the landscape around you.

Each of these four cafés offers something completely different.

If you want a dramatic city view, choose Gaeppul. If you want to experience architecture and time, visit Kitte. If you prefer a slower garden mood, Nuyas is the best fit. If you want a spacious escape surrounded by greenery, Le Hans is worth the trip.

Visit them one by one, depending on your mood, and you will start to see just how layered Seoul’s café culture really is.
