Some neighborhoods in Seoul do not reveal themselves at once.
Yeonhui-dong is one of them. It does not have the immediate noise of Hongdae, the glossy speed of Seongsu, or the obvious shopping energy of Apgujeong. Instead, it asks you to slow down a little.
The pleasure of travel is not always in following a packed schedule. Sometimes it is in walking without rushing, noticing a small sign you would have missed on another day, stepping into a shop you did not plan to visit, and leaving with a thought you did not expect to have.
That is how Yeonhui-dong feels to me. Just beyond Hongdae, the streets become quieter, the pace changes, and small shops begin to appear one by one. There are knitting supplies, ceramics, independent books, vintage objects, LPs, fashion pieces, and lifestyle goods chosen by people with a very personal eye.
This guide is for anyone who wants a softer side of Seoul shopping. Not a mall day. Not a crowded flagship route. Just a slow walk through a neighborhood where taste feels personal.
If you are staying near Hongdae or along Seoul Subway Line 2, Yeonhui-dong is also easy to add to your day. You can pair it with my Seoul Subway Line 2 hotel guide or continue toward nearby neighborhoods with my Sangsu and Hapjeong local course.

How to Get to Yeonhui-dong from Hongdae
Yeonhui-dong does not have a subway station sitting directly inside the neighborhood, which is part of why it still feels a little removed from the usual tourist flow. The easiest starting point is Hongik University Station.
Option 1: Walk from Hongik University Station
- Estimated Time: Around 25 to 30 minutes
- Best For: A slow walk on a mild day
- Start: Hongik University Station, Exit 3
From Exit 3, follow the Gyeongui Line Forest Park path through Yeonnam-dong, then head toward the main road leading to Yeonhui-dong. You will eventually reach the underpass that connects Yeonnam-dong and Yeonhui-dong.
Once you pass through it, the atmosphere shifts quietly. Hongdae’s fast rhythm starts to fall away, and Yeonhui-dong begins with lower buildings, calmer streets, and a slightly more lived-in mood.
The walk is not short, but on a good-weather day, it is a nice way to feel the distance between two very different parts of Seoul.
Option 2: Take the Bus
- Estimated Time: Around 5 to 10 minutes
- Best For: Saving your energy for shopping
- Bus Numbers: 7612 or 7734
- Boarding Point: Bus stop near Hongik University Station Exit 4
- Get Off At: Yeonhui-dong Community Service Center
If you want the simplest route, take a green branch bus from the bus stop near Exit 4 of Hongik University Station and get off at Yeonhui-dong Community Service Center. From there, the shopping streets in this guide are easy to reach on foot.
For first-time visitors using public transportation in Seoul, it helps to prepare a transit card in advance. I explained the basics in my T-money card guide for Seoul.

Part 1: Four Shops Close Together
The first four stops sit close to one another, which makes this part of Yeonhui-dong easy to enjoy without overplanning. Start with Banul Story, then move slowly through the nearby lanes. This is the section where the neighborhood feels most like a small cluster of personal tastes.
Banul Story
- Address: 15 Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @banul.official
- Best For: Knitting supplies, craft kits, and slow hobby shopping
If you like making things by hand, Banul Story is probably where you should begin.
This is not just a small yarn shop. The whole building is built around knitting, from yarns sourced from Europe to kits, tools, accessories, classes, and a cafe where people can sit down and actually spend time with their craft.
What I like about Banul Story is that it makes a hobby feel approachable. Even if you are not already a serious knitter, the colors, textures, and neatly arranged kits make you want to try something small.
It is the kind of place where a quick look can easily turn into half an hour.
Serrparc
- Address: Room 203, 7-5 Yeonhui-ro 11na-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @serrparc
- Best For: Objects, furniture, fashion, and lifestyle pieces with a clear point of view
Serrparc is one of the newer spaces in Yeonhui-dong, opened by the owner behind Camel.
The space feels less interested in chasing what is currently popular and more focused on a personal sense of taste. You can find objects, furniture, fashion pieces, and lifestyle items that feel carefully chosen rather than simply displayed.
It is a small stop, but a memorable one. The mood is quiet, edited, and very much in tune with Yeonhui-dong’s slower pace.
Aland Yeonhui
- Address: 42 Yeonhui-ro 11-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @aland2ndpage
- Best For: Fashion, select brands, and a calmer version of Aland
Aland was once one of the names that shaped Korea’s young designer and street fashion scene. The Yeonhui branch carries some of that nostalgia, but the mood here feels much softer than the Aland many people remember from crowded shopping districts.
The store suits Yeonhui-dong well. There is more room to browse slowly, with select fashion items, exhibitions, and lifestyle pieces spread across two floors.
Rather than feeling trend-driven, the space feels more settled and personal, which makes it fit naturally into the neighborhood.
Afternap
- Address: 2F, 30 Yeonhui-ro 11-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @afternap_official
- Best For: Japanese vintage items and calm interiors
Afternap is the sort of shop you are happiest to find by accident.
Up on the second floor, the space is white, quiet, and filled with Japanese vintage items arranged with care. With the large window and gentle atmosphere, it feels less like a store you rush through and more like a room you stay in for a while.
The name suits the mood. There is something slightly drowsy and peaceful about the place, as if it belongs to a slower hour of the day.
Part 2: Books, Ceramics, LPs, and Objects
After the first cluster of shops, walk a little farther into the neighborhood. This second half feels quieter and more collected, with ceramics, records, independent books, and objects that show Yeonhui-dong’s deeper mood.
Ojacraft
- Address: 3F, 24 Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @ojacraft
- Best For: Ceramics, craft objects, and a quiet showroom experience
Ojacraft is one of the Yeonhui-dong spaces I keep remembering after I leave.
The showroom is simple and restrained, with ceramic works that feel warm without trying too hard to look decorative. Bowls, plates, and small objects are arranged so that you can focus on texture, shape, and balance.
It is not a loud shopping stop. It is a place to slow down and spend a little more time looking carefully.
Papa Yeonhui
- Address: 8 Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @papayeonhui
- Best For: LPs, vintage finds, and collected objects
Papa Yeonhui has the warmth of a shop that could only exist in this neighborhood.
Run by a long-time Yeonhui-dong collector and his daughter-in-law, the store brings together records, dishes, and small objects that feel personal rather than overly styled.
The charm is in the mix. One shelf might lead you to an old LP, another to a plate or object you did not expect to want. It is a good place to wander without a fixed shopping list.
TTA
- Address: 28-5 Yeonhui-ro 11-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @tta_official_
- Best For: Unusual gifts and objects with an international mood
TTA is a good stop when you want something less predictable.
The shop gathers objects with an unfamiliar, slightly international feeling. Many of the pieces are not the kind of things you see everywhere in Seoul, which makes it a useful place for gifts.
If you are tired of buying the same souvenirs everyone else brings home, this is the kind of shop where you might find something smaller, stranger, and more personal.
Your Mind
- Address: Room 302, 122 Yeonhui-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
- Instagram: @your_mind_com
- Best For: Independent books, zines, and a quiet finish to the walk
Your Mind is one of Korea’s long-running independent bookstores, located on the second floor of an old residential building in Yeonhui-dong.
The shop curates small publications, independent books, zines, and artist goods from Korea and abroad. It has the kind of quiet that makes you lower your voice without thinking.
One of the nicest details is the view outside the window. The garden below gives the bookstore a calm, almost residential feeling that fits Yeonhui-dong perfectly.
If you want to end your Yeonhui-dong walk with something quieter than another cafe, Your Mind is a good final stop.
A Slower Side of Seoul
Yeonhui-dong works best when you leave a little space between stops.
Walk slowly. Look up at the old houses. Step into a shop even if you are not completely sure what it sells. That is usually when the neighborhood becomes most interesting.
Many of the spaces in this guide are small, and opening hours can change without much notice. Before visiting, it is safer to check Instagram or Naver Map for the latest updates.
