Summer in Seoul is hot and humid. During the day, it is tempting to stay anywhere with air conditioning. But once the sun begins to set, the Hangang River feels like a completely different place. You can sit on the grass and listen to music in the evening breeze, take in Seoul’s skyline from the water, or watch films and Korean dramas late into the night.
This summer, there are even more ways to experience the river. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the 2026 Hangang River Festival—Summer will take place from August 1 to 16 on the river and across nine Hangang parks. This year’s theme presents the Hangang as Seoul’s closest and most reliable summer escape.
The festival includes 18 programs in total. The lineup ranges from a race across the river in handmade boats to an overnight walking challenge, a paddleboard marathon, a water drone show, a silent DJ party and outdoor yoga.
Trying all 18 would be difficult, so I narrowed the list down to nine. These are the events that may be especially interesting for international visitors and anyone hoping to experience the Hangang a little differently this summer.

1. Hangang Summer Music Picnic: An Evening of Jazz, K-POP and a Water Drone Show
The first event that caught my attention this year was the Hangang Summer Music Picnic at Yanghwa Hangang Park. It combines a picnic concert on the grass with a water drone show on the river.
On August 1, Yoon Ik-hyung Band and So What NOLA Band will perform live jazz. The program includes familiar film soundtracks and pop songs rearranged as jazz, alongside a performance rooted in New Orleans marching music.
August 2 shifts to a sing-along K-POP concert. Kim Gyeol, Oh Hyun-woo and Springs Band will take the stage with well-known Korean songs such as “Bam Yang Gang,” “Every Day, Every Moment” and “It’s Art.”
A water drone show will unfold on the Hangang alongside the performances. Unlike a typical drone show in the sky, these drones move across the surface of the river, bringing music, water and light together. The water drone image used in the official promotional material is a staged visual created for reference, so the actual show may look different.
There are no reserved seats, and advance booking is not required. The event is free and takes place on the lawn, so bring a small picnic mat and arrive a little before the music begins.

The event may be cancelled if rainfall of 2.5 mm or more per hour is forecast. When the forecast meets the cancellation criteria, an announcement will be posted on the official website around 12 hours before the event begins.

2. High Seoul Cruise: Seoul Views and Fireworks from the Hangang
The Hangang feels different once you leave the riverbank and see it from the water. Bridges and riverside buildings that usually blend into the city begin to look like a new landscape from the deck of a cruise ship.
High Seoul Cruise departs from the Seoul Cruise Terminal in Yeouido Hangang Park. Daytime sailings include a chance to feed seagulls, while selected evening cruises feature a fireworks show set to music.
During the festival, the daytime cruise will run once a day from August 1 to 16, for a total of 16 sailings. The evening cruise with fireworks will operate only three times, on August 1, 8 and 15.
This is worth checking carefully before booking. The fireworks show does not take place every night during the festival. Anyone booking specifically for the show should make sure they have selected one of the designated Saturday evening sailings.

The official Seoul festival page lists separate Friday and Saturday evening fares. However, the festival’s scheduled night cruises fall on August 1, 8 and 15, all of which are Saturdays. Check the selected date, departure time and final price again on the booking page before paying.
Cruises may still operate in the rain, but service can be cancelled depending on the water level of the Hangang. When a cancellation is confirmed, passengers will be contacted and an announcement will be posted one day before departure.

3. Hangang Night Walk 42K: Walking Through Seoul After Dark
Hangang Night Walk 42K is an overnight walking event that begins and ends at Yeouido Hangang Park. In 2026, it celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Despite the name, there are three distances to choose from: 14K, 22K and 42K. The routes follow both sides of the Hangang, crossing several bridges and passing Seoul’s illuminated skyline before returning to Yeouido.
Start times vary by distance. The 42K walkers leave at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., while the 22K begins at 7:00, 9:00 or 11:00 p.m. The 14K starts at 6:00, 8:00 or 10:00 p.m. The event itself runs from 4:00 p.m. on August 1 until 8:00 a.m. the following morning.
This is quite different from an ordinary evening walk along the river. Participants will be outside for hours in the heat and humidity, and some sections of the route include changes in elevation. Wear shoes that are already broken in rather than a new pair, and pack extra socks, water, a few snacks and a portable charger.

Registration is open through the Urban Sports website until 3:00 p.m. on July 28, 2026. It may close earlier once all places are filled, so check the booking page for current availability.
The walk is generally held even in the rain. However, the start may be delayed or the event postponed by one week if rainfall reaches 11 mm per hour at the initial start time, or if discharge from Paldang Dam or the water level at Jamsu Bridge exceeds the safety limit.

4. Golden Blue Marina Yacht & Kayak Festival: Seoul from the Middle of the Hangang
At the Golden Blue Marina beside Sebitseom in Banpo Hangang Park, you can leave the riverbank behind and head out onto the Hangang by yacht or kayak. The main appeal is seeing the city from close to the water rather than from the shore.
Yacht trips are divided into daytime, sunset, Moonlight Rainbow Fountain and night tours. Each session lasts around 60 minutes, including a 10-minute safety briefing, boarding and disembarking, and approximately 40 minutes on the water.
For kayaking, there is a choice between a regular tour and a sunset tour. The regular session lasts about 50 minutes, while the summer sunset tour runs for approximately 80 minutes, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
To see the Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain up close, book one of the designated fountain tour times. When the fountain is not operating, the session will be replaced with a night tour.

Prices vary by program and day of the week. Arriving late may make it difficult to change the time or receive a refund, so allow extra time to find the marina within the Sebitseom complex.
Yachts generally operate in light rain but may be cancelled during heavy rain, typhoons or when flooding is expected. Kayak sessions are cancelled when it rains. When severe weather is forecast, an announcement will be made by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the booking.

5. Hangang Silent Yoga: An Evening Guided by a Voice in Your Headphones
Hangang Silent Yoga takes place on the broad lawn at Yeouido Hangang Park, with each participant wearing a pair of wireless headphones.
Unlike most outdoor yoga sessions, where music and the instructor’s voice are broadcast across the park, everything here is heard through the headphones provided. With the surrounding noise softened, it becomes easier to focus on your breathing and movement.
The program begins with a radio-style opening and music, followed by a singing bowl warm-up, standing poses, a yoga flow accompanied by listeners’ stories, and savasana. The official event time is listed as 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., although the detailed schedule shows the radio opening beginning at 5:30 p.m. Check the meeting time on the booking page before you go.

6. Hangang Musical Splash: A Nighttime Pool Party at Nanji
For anyone who wants to combine swimming with live music, Hangang Music Plunge at the Nanji Hangang Park Water Playground is the most direct choice.
On August 1, DJ Byeokdi will open the night with a DJ set, followed by rapper Sleepy with a hip-hop and trot performance. On August 2, DJ Byeokdi returns alongside Pentacle, the winning band of the Hangang University Song Festival. The lineup will range from nostalgic hits to recent K-POP songs.
There is no separate concert ticket. Anyone using the Nanji Water Playground during the event can watch the performances. Entry may still be restricted depending on capacity and conditions at the venue.

7. Blue Wave Challenge Hangang: Water Marathon
Blue Wave Challenge Hangang is a water marathon that takes participants across the Hangang on paddleboards. The course begins at the Seoul Windsurfing Center in Ttukseom Hangang Park and extends into the waters near Jamsil Hangang Park.
Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by basic paddleboarding and safety training. Participants then move to a floating stage, where they can enjoy a DJ performance and other activities before the water marathon begins at 11:00 a.m.

8. Hangang Silent DJ Party: A Party That Goes Quiet When the Headphones Come Off
Hundreds of people may be dancing in the same place, but take off the headphones and the music disappears. Hangang Silent DJ Party is a silent disco where participants wear wireless headphones and dance to the same music.
The event will take place three times beneath Mapo Bridge in Yeouido Hangang Park. The bridge provides shade from direct sunlight, although summer evenings can still be humid. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that will not become uncomfortable after hours of dancing.
It may look a little unusual from the outside, but the fun begins as soon as you put on the headphones and join everyone else in the same rhythm. Because the experience depends more on music and atmosphere than language, it is also relatively easy for international visitors to join.

9. Overnight Hangang ON: Staying Up All Night by the River
One of the programs that seems most likely to capture the spirit of a summer night in Seoul is Overnight Hangang ON. Held around Seoul Battleship Park in Mangwon Hangang Park, the event invites visitors to stay up watching a Korean drama and a horror film, reading comic books, playing board games and trying retro arcade machines.
From 9:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m., a YouTube binge-watch version of the Korean drama Coffee Prince will be screened. It will be followed by the horror film Sal-mok-ji, which runs from 3:00 to 4:35 a.m.
In the entertainment zone, visitors can borrow comic books and board games or try retro toys and arcade machines. The food zone will sell long tube-shaped snacks, ice cream, Hangang ramen and other refreshments.

10. What to Know Before Visiting the 2026 Hangang Festival
The 2026 Hangang Festival—Summer runs from August 1 to 16, but not every program takes place throughout the entire festival period. Dates and locations vary by event, and some programs require advance booking and payment.
Hangang parks cover large areas. Even within Yeouido Hangang Park, venues such as the marina, Neoreun Field, the area beneath Mapo Bridge and Green Shade Plaza are located some distance apart. Do not search only for “Yeouido Hangang Park.” Check the exact venue listed on the official program page and locate it on a map before setting out.
Parking lots and surrounding roads become congested on weekends. For programs with fixed start times, taking the subway or bus is generally the safer option. Many venues also require a walk from the nearest subway station, so allow extra time for the final part of the journey.
